Yesterday, I got the chance to meet potential readers in person for the first time, and while I suffered from an incredible amount of pre-event anxiety, the Writer’s Fest turned out to be pretty great.
There were ten of us in total, each with our own little setup promoting our wares. Several genres were represented, with Romance taking a clear lead, and Memoir and Graphic Fantasy filling out the ranks. I spoke with a few of the other authors there and learned about resources like the BC Writers Federation, an organization that runs events and workshops that I know I can make use of. The library itself actually approached me to see if I’d like to submit my book for them to carry, so that’s yet another thing I’m definitely gonna do.
To the point of the whole exercise, I managed to sell a few books as well. It’s definitely a weird feeling having someone want to hand over money in person for this thing I’ve created, but I think I could get used to it. In all honesty, it was a pretty great way to dip my toes into the public sphere of this gig, and I feel like it gave me some good experience I can carry forward into my next appearance.
Finally, I want to send out a huge thank you to everyone involved with the event, and give them all a shout out here.
