Keeping Perspective

I’ve been working at my new job as an IT professional for a week and a half now, and one of the things I’ve found myself needing to do is re-focus my mental effort towards this book far more than I first anticipated. Back on the construction site, I had all day to listen to writing podcasts, think about plot points and dup new situations for my characters to deal with. Now, it seems, all of that energy is going into making a good showing at the office, and I fear that it’s interfering with my internal timeline for this thing.

So, today I’m doing myself a favour. I’m making sure that I use at the very least my lunch break to focus on what needs to be done to make this thing a reality finally. I’ll be working on the Amazon page, reaching out to my beta readers on a more frequent basis, and doing my best to get the fire stoked back up to the level it was at before. This needs to remain the main focus, and I need to remember that the job is just a means to an end.

That being said, the promise of a regular paycheque that will allow me to afford a few extra creature comforts does mitigate the sting, just a bit.
